Parker, Winfield G., Jr., 85, of Putnam Pike, Greenville, a retired Army 1st Sergeant and veteran of two wars, died May 17, 2008 at Roger Williams Medical Center. He was the husband of Constance K. (Fenton) Parker for 64 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Winfield G. Parker Sr. and Maybelle E. (Henry) Parker. He was a lifelong Smithfield resident.

Mr. Parker enlisted in the RI National Guard in 1940 and was called to service during WWII and Korea. During WWII he served with the 43rd Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater. He retired from the National Guard as a First Sergeant in 1966. He was a member of the 43rd Signal Co. Veterans Association and the DAV. He attended Bryant College following WWII. He was a high school and semi-professional hockey and football player.

Mr. Parker was a Cost Accountant for the former Sprague Specialty Co. retiring in 1985.

Besides his wife he leaves a son, Stephen F. Parker of Milford, MA, a sister Mary Corte of Smithfield, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was father of the late Gary W. and Robert A. Parker.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday 1-3 PM followed by a funeral service with military honors at 3 PM in the ROBBINS FUNERAL HOME, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave, North Providence. Burial in the RI Veterans Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
