Sgambato, William “Bill” John, President and Owner of Yacht Club Bottling Works in Centredale, RI, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 5, 2019.
Bill is survived by his wife, Carole (Galligan) Sgambato; his children, Michael Sgambato, Cheri Sgambato, “her other third” Brian Zarlenga, Lisa (Sgambato) Calabro, husband Derek and John Sgambato, wife Lindsay; his grandchildren, Hannah and Dylan Calabro, Aubrey and Noah Sgambato. He is predeceased by his parents, John and Anne “Mae” (Sheers) Sgambato; sister Marion Raiche and her husband Roland. He is also survived by sister Ruth Aiello and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was born on July 10, 1941. He graduated from Bryant College with an Associate’s Degree in Business. He was drafted in 1963 to the United States Army and honorably discharged at the completion of his service. Bill and Carole were married on September 30, 1967 and celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2017.
Bill worked at Yacht Club prior to the draft and returned to work with his father John. They purchased Yacht Club in 1961 and remained there until his “retirement” in 2006. He maintained an active role with the business until his passing. He was a member of the New England Independent Bottlers’ Association and the Democratic Town Committee in North Providence. He enjoyed seeing all of his customers daily and cherished time spent with his family. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
His funeral will be held on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 10 am from the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial in 11 am in St. Philip Church, Greenville. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Ann Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday 5-8 pm.
