Lytle, William F., 90, died September 2, 2011 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. He was the husband of the late Margaret (Carey) Lytle. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late William J. and Mary "Molly" (Reynolds) Lytle.

William worked for New England Telephone for 35 years, retiring as supervisor for the equipment installation department. William attended St. Anthony Church, North Providence, where he was a server, and enjoyed traveling, especially to Mexico and to visit family in Ireland. He was outgoing and fun-loving.

William, a staff sergeant during WWII, was awarded a Bronze Star for action while serving with "Old Hickory" the 1st US Army, 30th Division under General Patton, which was referred to by the Germans at Patton's " S.S." for their fighting tenacity.

William leaves seven children, Dorothy Coogan of Scituate, Kathleen Dragon of Smithfield, William J. Lytle and wife Karen of Charlestown, Marilyn Archibald and husband Gordon of East Greenwich, Rosemary Knight of North Providence, Terrence Lytle and wife Sharlene of Sterling, CT, and Virginia Lytle of Richmond, his former wife, Dorothy (Brennon) Lytle of Smithfield, three sisters, Eileen Vanasse of Ipswich, MA, Frances Geary of Cranston, and Margaret Vincent of Providence, 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late James and Mark Lytle and brother of the late John and Joseph Lytle, Rose Holland, Catherine Maxwell, and Mary Marcello.

His funeral will be held Wednesday at 7:45 am from the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am in St. Anthony Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Ave. Burial with military honors will follow in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Calling hours Tuesday 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick, RI 02886.
