Colabella, Violette (Corbeil), RN, 83, of 4 Don Avenue, passed away Wednesday June 1, 2011 after a brief illness. She was known to friends as "Vi" or "Viola". Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Mary Corbeil and sister of the late Edward Corbeil. She had moved to North Providence in 1984.
She was the wife of Michael N. Colabella for over 60 years.
Vi graduated with her RN from Newport Hospital in 1949, worked at Women and Infants Hospital, did private duty, and worked at Miriam Hospital for nearly 40 years before retiring in 1996. She then worked from 1999-2004 as Nurse Recruiter at Roger Williams Hospital.
Vi was a communicant of St. Anthony Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister and Abba-Ave prayer minister. She also volunteered at the St. Edward's Food and Wellness Center, was a member of chapter 4580 AARP, St. Anthony's Senior Bowling League and Sal Mancini Pool evening water aerobics class.
She is survived by her children, Judy Colabella and her husband Walter Palen of Katy, TX, Nancy Murray and her husband Edmund of Pawtucket and Michael A. Colabella and his wife Virginia of Warwick, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday from 4-8 PM in the ROBBINS FUNERAL HOME, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave, North Providence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 AM in St. Anthony Church. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony Church, 5 Gibbs St, North Providence, RI 02904, or St. Edwards Food and Wellness Center, 1001 Branch Ave., Providence, RI 02904.
