Fecteau, Thomas B., 66, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, August 11, 2009, surrounded by his loving family at The Philip Hulitar Center, Home & Hospice Care of RI. He was the beloved husband of Patricia A. (Turbitt) Fecteau for 44 years. Born in Providence, RI, he was a son of the late Thomas C. Fecteau and Catherine A. (Short) Fecteau and resided in Providence, RI before moving to Seekonk, MA in 1971.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Patricia, and their children: Thomas B. Fecteau, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth P. Fecteau, Sean P. Fecteau and his wife Kelly J. Fecteau, Shannon E. Lambert and her husband Christopher Lambert, and Patricia A. Adamonis and her husband David F. Adamonis, Jr. Thomas was a loving grandfather to ten beloved grandchildren: Ryan, Page and William Fecteau, Garrett and Keira Fecteau, Amelia, Quinlan, Nolan and Campbell Lambert, and Lauren Adamonis. Thomas is also survived by his brothers, David and James Fecteau, and his sisters, Christine Miller and Jane Ryan.
Thomas has been involved in the employee benefits field for over 35 years. He established Fecteau Benefits Group, Inc. in 1976, which is a Third Party Administration firm that specializes in the design and administration of various retirement plans. He served as President and Chief Actuary of the company. He was enrolled before the Joint Board of Actuaries in 1976. He was a member of the American Society of Pension Actuaries, the American Academy of Actuaries, and was a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries. The Company is now run by his family members, Patricia A. Fecteau, Thomas B. Fecteau, Jr., Sean P. Fecteau and Patricia Adamonis, and has been for several years.
Thomas was a graduate of La Salle Academy, Class of 1961. He was a member of the La Salle Academy Hockey Team that won the New England High School Hockey Championship in 1961, in which he scored a goal in the Final Championship Game, and also was a First Team Selection to the All-Tournament Team as a Defenseman. He was also a First Team All-State Hockey Player Selection as a Defenseman in 1961, which was presented by the Providence Journal Bulletin.
Thomas was a graduate of Providence College, Class of 1965. He received a full scholarship for hockey to attend Providence College. This was one of nine scholarship offers he received for hockey when he graduated from La Salle Academy. He was a member of the Providence College Hockey Team that won the ECAC Hockey Championship in 1964. His team went on to compete in the Frozen Four Tournament where they lost to the eventual champions, University of Michigan by a score of 3 to 2. In 1967 after graduating from PC, he helped establish the "Friends of Friar Hockey" organization. He was also responsible in assisting in the design of Schneider Arena on the Providence College campus, which opened in 1973.
Thomas also found time to coach youth hockey in the Barrington, RI, Seekonk, MA and Providence, RI youth hockey associations. He also served as Head Coach of the La Salle Academy Hockey Team for six years (1980-1986).
In addition to his notable past involving hockey, Thomas was also a member of the Wannamoisett Country Club for over 30 years.
His funeral will be held Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 7:45 am from the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence, RI with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am in the Cathedral of Saints Peter & Paul, Providence, RI. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence, RI. Visiting hours Friday 4 to 8 pm.
