Salisbury, Tamako, 81, of Chestnut St, Johnston, passed away under the excellent care of the staff at Saint Antoine Residence on Monday April 13, 2009. She was the beloved wife of the late United States Army Major Edward A Salisbury. She was the daughter of the late Junkichi and Yukie Chihara. She is survived by her sister, Yasuko Inoue and brother, Takemi Chihara of Kanagawa, Japan, her niece, Dianne C. Michalski of CT, her nephews Arthur Salisbury of RI, and Kenneth Salisbury of FL and many great nieces and nephews. Tomi was like a mother to Toshiko Wilkner of Providence and like a grandmother to Alicia Heisler of Los Angeles, CA and to April Wilkner of New York, NY.

Tomi came from her native country of Japan many years ago. She and her late husband built their home and their lives in Johnston. Tomi was an adventurer. She explored the world through hiking, travel and reading. She was an artist who studied portrait painting. Tomi practiced yoga. She loved to walk in Lincoln Woods where she always carried dog treats in her pockets to treat as many dogs as she could on her circles around. Tomi had many friends to whom she was loyal through the years and who remained loyal to her. She will be greatly missed by so many.

Her funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 am in the Highland Memorial Park Mausoleum, Rhode Island Ave., Johnston. Calling hours Friday 5-7 pm in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the RISPCA, 186 Amaral St., Riverside, RI 02915.
