Straight, Russell Gardiner, died in the loving company of his three daughters on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Fatima Hospital. He was 89.
A resident of Domin Ave., Smithfield, RI for sixty-five years, Russell had been born in North Kingstown, RI. He was the son of the late Percy J. Straight and the late Annie (Gardiner) Straight.
He was the brother of the late Donald J. Straight of West Greenwich, and the husband of the late Doris (Swift) Straight.
Russell is survived by his wife of sixty-one years Norma (Hargreaves) Straight, their three daughters and their husbands Louise and Richard Snow, Cathy and George Lavoie, and Wendy and Michael Farrell.
He will be missed by his six grandchildren Richard, Derek and Gregory Snow, Kelly (Farrell) Marini, Aimee (Farrell) DosSantos, and Gail (Lavoie) DeCecco.
He also leaves four great-grandchildren, three nieces, and one nephew.
Russell retired from Leesona Corporation after forty-one years. He began there as a toolmaker apprentice, and later became supervisor of several departments within the manufacturing division. For fifteen years, he was the manager of Manufacturing and Tool Engineering.
Besides being active in the Leesona golf league for many years,
Russell enjoyed dancing, especially during the Big Band Era of the 1930s and 1940s.
In recent years, he took great pleasure in the time he spent at the Southern Rhode Island shores. He made many friends at his favorite destination, Salty Brine Beach in Galilee.
Honoring his wishes, there will be no calling hours.
