Eastman, Roy L., 82, of Lincoln, RI, formerly of North Providence, RI and Plymouth, NH, passed away on Tuesday, March 8th, 2016 at the Philip Hulitar Center in Providence, RI. He was the beloved husband of Jane O'Reilly Sweet Eastman for 35 years. Born in Plymouth, NH on 2/26/1934, he was the son of the late Roy L. Eastman, Sr. and Evelyn Rodiman Eastman.
Roy was a 1952 graduate of Plymouth High School where he was named to the All State Football Team. He was also a 1986 graduate of The University of Rhode Island. He served 4 years in the US Navy during the Korean War and loved to talk about his service on the Midway Aircraft Carrier.
He spent most of his working career in supervisory and plant manager positions in various manufacturing facilities in New England- Draper Corp in Campton, NH; Rockwell International in Hopedale, MA; Norton Safety Products in Cranston, RI; Heywood Wakefield Co. in Gardner, MA; American Tourister, Inc. in Providence, RI; Baker Brothers Systems in Stoughton, MA; and Trina, Inc. in Fall River, MA. Before retirement he was the director of Beneficent House Apartment Bldg in Providence RI for 5 years.
As a long standing member of the Beneficent Congregational Church in Providence, he served as president for six years as well as on various other committees.
Roy was a 9 year member of North Atlantic Cultural Exchange League (NACEL), a French student exchange program, a 25 year board member of Mental Health Services (now Gateway), a 7 step Mason, a 15 year member of PFLAG and a 32 year member of Bonnet Shores Beach Club.
Besides his love of family and the New England Patriots, he loved his long term volunteer service at the information desk at the Miriam Hospital. Helping others and sharing a smile with all who approached the desk game him great satisfaction
He was the much loved father of Shirley J. Eastman of Plymouth, NH, Brian D. Eastman (Margaret) of DePere, Wisconsin, Jeffrey S. Eastman (deceased), and Steven C. Eastman of Plymouth, NH. He was a great stepfather to Nathan B. Sweet (Rebecca) of Moorpark, CA, and Julie A. White (Daun) of Jefferson, NJ. He was also the beloved grandpa to 9 grandchildren and step grandchildren, Clay and John Eastman, Taylor McKinney, Keira, Daun and Maura White, Benjamin, Nicholas and Lauren Sweet, and one great grandchild, Jackson McKinney. He also leaved 4 nieces and 3 nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Elva Muzzey of Wentworth, NH. He was predeceased by his sister, Clarice Holland.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 11 AM in the Beneficent Congregational Church, 300 Weybosset St., Providence. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held Friday from 4-8PM in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave. North Providence.
