Rawdon, Robert H., of North Providence, a retired professional engineer, died on his 98th Birthday, February 26, 2010. He was the husband of the late Lillian B. (Lewis) Rawdon. Born in Providence he was a son of the late William R. and Elizabeth M. (Favreau) Rawdon.
He was the Town Engineer of North Providence from 1949 to 1956. His work for the Federal Government began with the Army Corps of Engineers in the Rivers and Harbors Division in Providence, the Flood Control Division in Baltimore, the Fortifications Design Division and field construction of Bradley Field in Windsor Locks, CT, coastal fortifications at Pt. Judith, Narragansett Bay and Block Island Sound. A World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps, he also served with the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics at Langley Field, Virginia.
He had worked for Howe and Prout Architects, Fenton Keys Associates, and as an architect for the Quonset Point Naval Air Station for 14 years, retiring in 1973. He was also an engineering consultant until the age of 83 and attended the RI School of Design.
Bob leaves his daughter Kathleen R. Johnson and her husband Ed, two grandchildren Robert E. Johnson and his wife Alice, and David E. Johnson, three great grandchildren, Zachary, Kaleigh, and Nathan, a sister Lucille Fascia, a niece and nephews. He was brother of the late William, Elizabeth, and Bernadette Rawdon.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 8 AM from the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM in St. Edward Church, Branch Ave, Providence. Calling Hours Tuesday 4-7 PM. Burial with military honors will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
