Izzo, Robert E., 89, died May 17, 2009 at Hopkins Manor. He was the husband of Jennie J. (Bianco) Izzo. Born in Johnston, he was a son of the late Albert and Sarah (Cambio) Izzo.
Robert was the founder and owner of Izzo Oil until his retirement in 1990. He was an Army Technical Sergeant in the Americal Division 164th Infantry during World War II. He was a Bronze Battle Star recipient for combat on Bougainville Island in the South Pacific and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries incurred on Cebu Island in the Philippines. He was a member of the VFW Post # 10011 and was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves two children, Paula Girasole and her husband Richard and Robert E. Izzo, Jr. and his wife Carolyn, all of North Providence, three grandchildren, Richard Girasole, Jr., Jennifer Turcotte and Sarah Izzo, four great-grandchildren, two brothers, Edmund and Alfred Izzo, and a sister Norma DeCurtis. He was brother of the late Edith Del Vicario, Anna Giuliano, Dorothy Cifelli, Eleanor Izzo, John Izzo and Albert Izzo, Jr.
His funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 AM from the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave, North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Thomas Church, Providence. Burial with Military Honors will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Calling hours Tuesday (TONIGHT) 5-8pm.
