Scorpio, Rita J. (Dunphy), 91, died on December 11, 2010 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital after a short illness. She was the wife of the late George A. Scorpio for seventy-one years. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Dr. George and Jenny Dunphy. Mrs. Scorpio lived in Johnston, Cumberland and since 2003 at Pocasset Bay Manor, Johnston. Mrs. Scorpio was a long time member of the St. Thomas Women's Club and the Providence Women of Rotary.
She is survived by two sons, George, Jr. of Woonsocket, Ralph and his wife Laurel of Johnston; three daughters, Paula Dunne of North Kingstown, Marguerite Bride and her husband Edward of Pittsfield, Massachusetts and Christine Macaulay and her husband Stephen of Woonsocket; two sisters, Ann Warren of South Lake Tahoe, California, Catherine Desgranges of Exeter and one brother, Paul Dunphy of Niantic, Connecticut; fifteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. She was pre-deceased by her sister Ethel Gorman and brothers George Dunphy, Fredrick Dunphy and Edward Dunphy.
Mrs. Scorpio's funeral will be held Wednesday at 8:30 AM from the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Ave., Johnston. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Calling hours Tuesday 4-8 PM. Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the Rhode Island Food Bank or to the charity of your choice.
