Hunter, Rita (Brunelle), 90, passed peacefully surrounded by her family on November 13, 2018 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. She was the beloved wife of the late William J. Hunter for 62 years before his passing in 2011. Born in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Germaine (Alix) Brunelle.
After her retirement, Rita pursued her lifelong dream of figure skating. She was a member of the Warwick Figure Skater Precision Team. She also enjoyed sewing and donated many handmade baby blankets to Project Linus. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by five children, Thomas Hunter of Pawtucket, John Hunter and his wife Susan of Riverside, Susanne DeFedele and her husband Richard of North Providence, Debra Solitro and her husband George of Warwick, and William Hunter and his wife Karla R. of Maine; six grandchildren, John Hunter, Jeffrey Hunter, Richard DeFedele, Sarah Ludwig, Robert Solitro, and Michael Solitro; four great-grandchildren, Jolene, Arrow, Onyx, and Wylye; a brother, Andre Brunelle, and a sister, Bernadette Alix. She was sister of the late Therese St. Germain, Joseph Brunelle, and Marguerite Alix.
Her funeral will be held Saturday at 8 am from the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am in Mary, Mother of Mankind Church, 25 Fourth St., North Providence. Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Calling hours Friday 5-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends Way, 765 W Shore Rd, Warwick, RI 02889.
