Shadoian, Richard. It is with great sadness that our family announces the death of Richard Shadoian, former Superintendent of Schools in North Providence. A long-time resident of North Providence and Charlestown, he died on August 22 after a brief illness, surrounded by his family.
Born to John and Margaret Shadoian in Providence on October 14,1925, he is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Shirley Nickerson Stoddard, and his seven children: Richard of San Francisco, John, Edward, and Peter of North Providence, Patricia Taylor of Clermont, Florida, David of Glocester, Kathy Graham of Jamestown, 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Charles Shadoian.
A dedicated educator, he served in the North Providence School Department for over 40 years. He participated in many community organizations, including the Rotary Club, Lion's Club, Ocean Ridge Civic Association, Boy Scouts, NP Teachers Credit Union, and NP Boosters. Active in Democratic Party politics, he managed many campaigns, and was an elected member of the North Providence Democratic Town Committee.
Calling Hours: Tuesday, August 25 from 5 to 8 pm at Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Avenue, Centredale. Funeral services and burial, with military honors, will be held on Wednesday, August 26 at 10 am at Highland Memorial Park, 1 Rhode Island Avenue, Johnston.
