Swinden, Pearl Brooks, 95, died on Friday, February 19, 2014. She was born in Newport, RI, where she lived for 40 years; she lived for another 40 years on the CT shoreline before moving to Smithfield 15 years ago. She was the widow of Alfred Swinden to whom she was married for 52 years and Marshall Smith to whom she was married for nearly five years.
She is survived by her daughter, Caryl Frink and her husband the Rev. James P. Frink. She was a devoted grandmother to Mary Frink, Kristina Delaney, Andrew Frink, and Jonathan Stevens and lived to enjoy her five great-grandsons. She was predeceased by her daughter, Sharon Swinden Healy and her 11 siblings.
Pearl began her working years as a bookkeeper and became the Financial Secretary and part owner of the Herman & Rice Insurance Agency in New Haven, CT. She was an avid fan of both the Red Sox and the UConn basketball teams.
Her funeral services will be held Friday, February 28 at 10 am in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 490 Broadway, Pawtucket; burial will be in Madison, CT. Calling hours will be from 4-7 pm on Thursday, February 27 in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
