SFC (Ret.) Paul A. Grimes, beloved son, brother, brother-in-law and uncle, left us suddenly on Monday, October 4, 2021 after a valiant struggle with illness. Paul was born to Joseph F. and Agnes R. Grimes of North Providence. Paul is survived by his loving mother, Agnes R. Grimes, and his siblings, Deborah L. Procopio, William G. Grimes, Sheila A. Murphy, Mary E. McGrath and James P. Grimes. Paul began an exemplary career with the United States Army National Guard at the age of eighteen as a Cannon Crewmember with the 103d Field Artillery Unit. He transitioned to Unit Clerk and was then selected for training as a Recruiter in Little Rock, AR earning his Associate’s Degree. Paul received numerous commendations for his performance in the field of recruiting. His final post at the National Guard Bureau in Washington, DC culminated his twenty-four years of service. Upon retirement, Paul enjoyed gardening, woodworking and the restoration of his military vehicles. In his quiet and unassuming manner, Paul’s lifelong goal was to “strive for perfection, tolerate excellence.” This will continue to be executed by the many lives he has touched.
