LaTour, Nora (Tomlinson), 91, formerly of North Providence, died peacefully in her daughter's home on August 14, 2012. She was the beloved wife of the late Lawrence G. LaTour. She was born to Florence and William Tomlinson in Lancashire, England. She is survived by her daughter, Valerie C. Godfrey and her husband Roger of Ottumwa, IA, her son, Lawrence G. LaTour Jr. and his wife Penny Hall of Wakefield, and her daughter, Deborah J. LaTour of Smithfield. In addition, she is survived by two sisters, Hannah Malone and Constance Simmons, both of Smithfield. She was the sister of the late Edna Waterman and Jane Garthwaite. Besides her children and her sisters, she leaves eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Nora worked at Fleet National Bank in Providence and was also a hairdresser at both Mary Jane's in North Providence and Millie's Beauty Shop in Chepachet. She was an intelligent woman who loved reading, Scrabble, traveling, and gardening. She was an accomplished seamstress and knitter. She was a lifelong member of St. Alban's Church, serving on the Altar Guild and as a bible study hostess. Her friends and family remember her as a sweet and kind woman, who always put others before herself. She will be greatly missed.
Her funeral service will be held Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 10 am in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. Burial to follow in Highland Memorial Park. Calling hours Friday 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
