Nina Petrovna Petrovic, née Kaminova, formerly of North Providence, died peacefully at her home in New York City on November 15, 2012. Born in Vilna Lithuania in 1924, she grew up in Russia. She and her family were the victims of Stalin's purges in 1937. She went on to survive the Siege of Leningrad and subsequently the bombing of Berlin in WWII. After the war, Nina met her husband, Ranko, in a camp for displaced persons in Yorkshire, England. They raised their two daughters in Bradford, England, where Nina became qualified as a Mathematics, German and Russian Language teacher. In 1971, Nina and her family emigrated to Michigan, where she worked for many fulfilling years as a dedicated Mathematics and German teacher at West Bloomfield High School. Nina also had a profound and enduring love of Russian literature, especially the poets Pushkin and Blok, whose verses it gave her great pleasure to recite. Nina was pre deceased by her husband Ranko. She is survived by her daughters, Vera and Nada; son-in-law Mo; and grandchildren, Aria, Kia, Andrei and Navid.
Calling hours will be held at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, 71 Manville Hill Road, Cumberland, Rhode Island on Sunday, November 18 from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 6 p.m. Internment at Swan Point Cemetery, Providence Rhode Island will commence from the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, Cumberland at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, November 19.
