Letoile, Mary E. "Betty", a Providence resident for 59 years, with the last three years spent with The Little Sisters of the Poor in Washington, DC, died on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 surrounded by family and the Sisters.
Betty was born in Fall River, MA on May 24, 1925 to Peter and Mae Ward.
She spent most of her younger years in New Bedford, MA. She graduated from Holy Family High School and Campbell's Business School with a degree in Bookkeeping. Her first job out of business school was with The Standard Times Newspaper in New Bedford. She met her beloved husband, Raymond Letoile, at a USO dance at Camp Edwards, during WW II. After the war, Betty and Ray moved to North Providence, RI where Ray took over his father's business, North Providence Auto Body. Betty played an active role in the business, until Ray's death in 1985.
Betty and Ray raised their family of five in Providence, RI: Very Rev. Kenneth R. Letoile, O.P., NY, NY; Susan St. George, Danbury, CT.; Nancy Carty, Smithfield RI; Corinne Hurst, Springfield, VA; and Marilyn Blanchette, Oviedo, FL. Betty also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Pius V. Church, 55 Elmhurst Avenue, Providence RI on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
