Marie Iafrate

Iafrate, Marie L. "Auntie Marie", 85, a lifelong resident of 1888 Smith St., died October 30, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Marco James and Laura Ann Marie (Marotto) Iafrate.

Ms. Iafrate was a social studies teacher at the N. A. Ferri Middle School in Johnston, retiring in 1990. She was the first president of the Johnston Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO, Local 1702. She received her BA from URI in 1963. She also served her country in the Women's Air Force as a radar technician with the Headquarters 32nd Air Division in Syracuse, NY from 1954 to 1958.

Marie leaves a nephew Stephen Iafrate and his wife Nancy, two nieces, Patricia Bellini and her husband Dante, and Catherine DiChiaro, her sister-in-law Edith Iafrate, five great nieces and nephews, Gregory Iafrate, Laura Austin, Mark, Christine, and Meredith Iafrate, and six great-great nieces, and her caregiver Loretta O'Gorman. She was sister of the late Raymond G. and Frank J. Iafrate and aunt of the late Raymond J. Iafrate.

Her funeral and visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:15 to 10:15 AM in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave, North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Anthony Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Ave. Burial with military honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
