Thornton, Leonard V., 93, of Dresden, Maine and Largo, Florida, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the home of his daughter in Cranston. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen (Emin) Thornton for 67 years. Born in Pelham, Massachusetts, he was a son of the late Victor and Annie Thornton and step-son of Rachel Thornton. He had previously lived in Smithfield for 32 years.
Mr. Thornton was the owner of Emin Chevrolet for 30 years before retiring and moving to Maine. He was a WWII Air Force veteran and a B-24 pilot. He was a member of the Smithfield Sportsman's and Lion's Clubs.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Maureen D. Jervis and her husband William F. of Cranston, and Maxine T. Paquette of Johnston; five grandsons, nine great grandchildren; a sister, Merle Bacon of Hadley, MA, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Shirley Ross and James Powers.
Leonard's funeral will be held Saturday at 9 AM from the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave, North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Michael Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Georgiaville. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Calling hours are Friday 4-7 PM.
