Kay H. Stein died in Smithfield, RI on April 19, 2014. She was born Katharine Patricia Howard on August 16, 1918 in Chicago, IL to Winifred (Reeve) and William J. Howard. She attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart for Girls in Chicago and then Lake Forest College. In 1938 she married John S. Stein, with whom she sailed Lake Michigan. The couple subsequently moved to New York and sailed the Hudson. Kay was a talented dancer and a prolific artist who continued to paint after their move to Westport, CT in 1949. In Westport, Kay later joined the Westport Woman’s Club where she volunteered and played bridge. Kay and John were avid sailors and early members of the Minute Man Yacht Club. Kay is survived by her children, J. Tobias Stein (Barbara) of Cambridge, MA; Daniel W. Stein of Providence, RI; Louise K. Stein (Gary Supanich) of Ann Arbor, MI; Samuel A. Stein of Westport, CT; and James O. Stein (Rosemary) of Smithfield, RI; and grandchildren Jesse, Nathan, Matthew, Julius, Katherine, and Timothy, as well as four great-grandchildren (Evan, Harrison, Ella, and Elsie). She was predeceased in 1991 by her son, Paul David Stein, an attorney in Chicago. A Mass of Christian burial will be on May 12 at 11AM in St. Luke Church, Westport, CT.
