Stroker, John Stanley Jr. passed away peacefully under the care and comfort of Hope Hospice with his family by his side on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at the age of 91. John was an active entrepreneur throughout his life as the founder and owner of Fit ‘N’ Stitch, a company he ran with his wife and sons for 61 years. John was an energetic man that devoted his spare time to many interests and organizations, holding many executive offices in the Rhode Island Skin Divers Association, Providence Central Lions Club, and Rhode Island Beekeepers Association. In addition, John coached cross country skiing and cycling for Special Olympics. He held a position as a water safety instructor for the American Red Cross. John was raised to the degree of Master Mason at King Solomon’s Lodge. He was a Shriner and a member of the Johnston Lions Club.
John was born on December 8, 1929 in Pawtucket, RI, the son of Beatrice Pion Stroker and John Stanley Stroker Sr. John leaves his loving wife of 71 years, Lois Moody Stroker, and four children, Charlene Sroka of Morrisville, VT, Jay Stewart Stroker and his wife Patricia Wilde Stroker of The Woodlands, TX, Jeffrey M. Stroker and his wife Gail Dootson Stroker of Warwick RI, and Joshua A. Sroka Esq. and Sherry Restivo Sroka of Saunderstown, RI. He was predeceased by his daughter Kerri Lynn Stroker. John leaves 15 loving grandchildren and 7 loving great grandchildren as well.
John was an avid SCUBA diver, one of the first qualified SCUBA divers in the state to assist in local maritime emergencies. He was a self-taught pianist who played in both local jazz bands and for Irish celebrations.
Services will be held on Saturday December 20, 2020 at Moshassuck Cemetery in Central Falls with close family members attending. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to HopeHealth Hospice, 1085 North Main St. Providence, RI 02904.
