Desautel, John E., 89, died Saturday, May 27, 2017, at the Roger Williams Medical Center. He was the husband of Rosalie B. (Johns) Desautel for 70 years. A lifelong resident of North Providence he was a son of the late Theodore and Oliva (LaTour) Desautel.
John was a plumber for 43 years working out of Local 51. He served in the US Marine Corps during WW II. John was proudly committed to his family and passionate about woodworking, hunting and fly fishing. He was a longstanding member of Cranston Fish and Game and a faithful communicant of St. Michaels Church and St. Lawrence Church until its closing. John was a loving grandfather and great-grandfather.
Following his service in the Marine Corps, he married Rosalie and raised five children in their Centredale home. Besides his wife he leaves his children, John M. Desautel of Bristol and his former wife Bev of Cranston, Michelle J. Desautel of North Providence, Cheryl A. Caloura and her husband Michael of Glocester, Christopher J. Desautel of Johnston, and Daniel J. Desautel and his wife Lori of Chepachet. He also leaves a brother Parnel Desautel of CT, seven grandchildren, Matthew, Kristen, Megan, Katie, Andrea, Valerie, and Daniel, three great grandchildren, Reese, Mila, and Alden.
John’s funeral will be held Thursday at 9 AM from the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave, North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Michael Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Smithfield. Burial, with military honors will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Calling hours are Wednesday 4-7 PM.
