Jarvis Carey Holmes, affectionately known by friends and family as "Jazzie Pajamas," journeyed from this world on February 4, 2025, in North Providence, Rhode Island. He was born in New York City on May 19, 1955, and lived a life replete with experiences that endeared him to countless lives. With a warm and welcoming personality, he possessed an innate ability to make everyone feel at ease, creating bonds that echoed through the years.
Jarvis dedicated over 28 years of his career as a Global Account Specialist at United Parcel Service Incorporated, where his expertise and commitment illuminated his professional endeavors. His journey of education began at Ossining High School, where he spent three years among classmates before his family transitioned to Tarrytown, New York, and he finished at Sleepy Hollow High School, graduating with the class of 1973. He further expanded his horizons at Roger Williams University, majoring in Psychology, and notably earning straight A's while making the Dean’s List—a testament to his hard work and dedication to learning.
Beyond academics and professional achievements, Jarvis had a zest for life that was reflected in the memories he created. A passionate fan of the Beatles, he cherished the experience of attending outdoor concerts, where the music resonated with the very essence of his spirit. His love for the thrill of boxing and practicing Judo showcased his dynamic nature and adventurous soul. Going on journeys and exploring new horizons with good friends enriched his life even further, and those adventures will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him.
His family was his anchor, with his loving daughter Shelley Jackson, son-in-law Michael Jackson, and cherished granddaughters Melissa Jackson and Stephanie Jackson-Lago along side her husband Lazaro Lago among those who will carry his legacy forward. His great grandchildren Blake Lago, and Kaylee Lago—will hold dear the lessons learned and the laughter shared, instilling within them the values Jarvis embodied. He was supported throughout his life by his sister Alicia Jackson, brother-in-law Lorenzo Jackson, brother Dwayne Holmes, and sisters Anj'ette Payne, who will remember him fondly alongside his nephews AJ, Keion, and nieces Empress ,Tyan and husband Riley, as they share stories and hold onto the legacy of love he fostered. He also leaves behind other family members and friends.
Jarvis is now reunited in spirit with his beloved wife, Carol Holmes, his mother Delores Cherry, father James Holmes, stepfather James Cherry, and his niece Zoe Jackson. Their bonds, although severed in life, persist in the embrace of cherished memories and love's eternal ties.
As we reflect upon his life's journey, we remember Jarvis not only for his achievements but for the joy, warmth, and laughter he brought into our lives—an enduring flame that will continue to burn in the hearts of those he loved. Our family expresses sincere gratitude for the unwavering support and condolences received during this difficult time, honoring Jarvis’s spirit that remains intertwined with ours.
