Janice Cranshaw

Janice M. (Berube) Cranshaw (80) passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 16, 2019 after a long illness. She was the loving wife of the late Robert (Bob) A. Cranshaw for 48 years.  Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Albert J. Berube, Sr. and the late Isabelle (Howard) Berube.

Janice grew up in Smithfield, RI and graduated from North Providence High School. She was employed as an Executive Secretary at Northwestern Mutual Insurance Co in Providence. She later worked as a para-mutual clerk at Lincoln Greyhound Park until her retirement.  Janice attended the Community College of Rhode Island where she truly enjoyed art and writing classes.  She loved drawing sketches and writing poetry to share with others.

Janice and Bob met when her brother Al introduced her to his Army buddy Bob. Janice and Bob were married in 1965 at Georgiaville Baptist Church and raised their two children in Harmony, RI.  She loved the view of Waterman Lake from her front porch and enjoyed playing cards there with family and friends.

Janice loved to go on vacations, especially to Disney World in Florida with family and friends.  She enjoyed being with her granddaughters, including trips to New Hampshire, a family Christmas in Disney, and hosting Grandma and Grandpa summer camp at the lake. Janice and Bob also enjoyed their trips to Atlantic City with dear friends Fran and Ken Shaw. She loved watching professional tennis and cooking shows. Though she loved going out to eat, she took great pride in her culinary creations and often shared with the family. She was especially proud of her lasagna and summertime favorites clam cakes and chowder. More recently she loved hearing stories and seeing pictures of the newest addition to the family, son Bob’s dog Ranger.

She is survived by her loving children Cheryl Mae McCarthy and her husband Ken of Mansfield, MA and Robert M. Cranshaw of Glocester, RI.  She was grandmother to Stephanie McCarthy of Framingham, MA and Katie and Jennifer McCarthy of Mansfield, MA.  She was the sister of Gertrude Hall of North Scituate and Cumberland, RI, Marilyn Carpenter of Summerville, SC, and Sharon Lyman and her husband John of Harmony, RI.  She was the sister of the late Albert J. Berube, Jr. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Friday December 20th from 4-7 pm at Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Avenue in North Providence.  Funeral Services will be held Saturday December 21st at 11 am at Robbins Funeral Home followed by burial at North Burial Ground in Providence.  The family invites you to join them after the burial for brunch at the Harmony Lodge, 102 Putnam Pike – Route 44, Harmony, RI to celebrate and remember Janice.
