Girard, James P., 84, died September 20, 2017 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the husband of Marion (Gudaitis) Girard for 60 years. Born in Georgiaville, he was a son of the late Phillippe and Ella (Wiley) Girard.
James was a groundskeeper for the Smithfield School Department for 20 years before retiring. He was an avid fisherman, holding the Rhode Island record for catching the largest Northern Pike. He also loved dogs.
James served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his beloved daughter, Cynthia Loxsom and her husband David of Chester, VT, his son, Robert Girard of Georgiaville, three grandsons, six great-grandchildren, his brother, Francis Girard of Smithfield, and two sisters, Carol Craddy of Cranston and Delores Benjamin of Florida. He was the father of the late James Girard.
His funeral service will be held Monday at 11 AM in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence, followed by burial with military honors in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visitation Monday 10-11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
