Fortin, J. Walter, 95, died peacefully Monday, July 20, 2015 at St. Antoine's Residence. He was the husband of the late Marjorie P. (Smith) Fortin. Born in Smithfield, he was a son of the late Ernest and Laura (Corriveau) Fortin.
Walter was a claims supervisor for Aetna Life and Casualty of Providence for 16 years, retiring in 1981. Prior to Aetna, he worked at Rossi's Auto Body of North Providence for 22 years. He was a US Navy veteran of WWII. He adored his grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and enjoyed his hobby of automobiles and gardening.
He leaves his daughter Beverly Duquette and her husband Gerald, of No. Attleboro, a son David W. Fortin and his wife Jeannine of Burrillville, 3 grandchildren, David Fortin, Justin Duquette, and Jared Fortin, and 2 great grandsons, and a half-brother, Joseph Matton. He was the brother of the late Albert and Leo Fortin, Beatrice Labrie, Bertha Rossi, Blanche Santonelli, and Yvonne Turkia.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 9 AM from the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave, North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in Mary Mother of Mankind Church, 25 Fourth St. Burial with military honors will be in Acotes Hill Cemetery, Chepachet. Calling hours are Wednesday 5-8 PM.
