Isabelle Uttley

Isabelle Roberts Uttley, 95, died peacefully on July 26, 2018 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Elizabeth Roberts and wife of the late Herbert Allen Uttley, a veteran of the Smithfield Fire Department.

Isabelle lived most of her life in Smithfield, RI. As a child and teenager, her mother and father owned and operated Roberts Grocery Store at the corner of Waterman Avenue and Minoru Street in Esmond. She married Herbert at age twenty-one and they eventually settled in Greenville where Isabelle worked for the Observer well into her eighties. She was a member of Eastern Star as well as a faithful member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Greenville where she served as Altar Guild Directress for many years.

Gentle and kind, Isabelle treasured her close relationships with family and friends. She was the mother to the late Allen Uttley and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan Uttley and Louis Swiech of Greenville, and four grandchildren, Tara Foley of North Providence, Allison Bianco and her husband Todd of North Providence, Deanna Foley and her fiance Joe Gaetano of Weymouth, MA and Michael Uttley and his wife Allison of Maynard, MA. She was thrilled to live to meet three great-grandchildren who she leaves behind, Milo Bianco, Eden Gaetano, and Shawn Uttley. She will be buried alongside her late husband and late son.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 4-7pm at Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence, RI. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 8:45 am from the Robbins Funeral Home with a Requiem Eucharist at 10am at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 1 Smith Avenue, Greenville, RI. Graveside burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, 1 Rhode Island, Avenue, Johnston, RI.
