Darby, Harold Jr. 87, of Smithfield, a former supervisor of Alumiline/Vistiwall Corp. from 1952 until his retirement in 1990, died Saturday 30 November 2013.
He was the husband of the late Rosalie (Parenteau) Darby. Born in Providence February 9, 1926, he was the son of the late Harold and Laura (Hauser) Darby of North Providence. He lived in Smithfield for the last 65 years.
Mr. Darby was a Veteran, serving in the Navy during WWII. He was also a Life Member of the North Providence Fire Dept where he served as a volunteer and paid call man from 1942 until his retirement as Captain "Grumpsy" in 1980. He also coached the Smithfield Raiders in the early 70's and enjoyed both football and golf.
He is survived by his daughter Patricia Oliva of Smithfield, his son James F. Darby and his wife Julie of North Smithfield, his sister Barbara and her husband Raymond Parenteau of Smithfield, his brother Donald and his wife Barbara of Palm Coast Florida. He was also the brother of the late Florence (Darby) Day, 3 grand children, Frank Oliva and his wife Karen of Waterford MI., Jennifer Cendrowski Darby and her husband Walter of Spring Lake NC and James T (JT) Darby of Woonsocket. He also leaves 4 great-grandchildren Zachary and Gabe Oliva and Alyssa and Kaitlyn Cendrowski . He also leaves many nieces and nephews and his former daughter-in law Gladys Darby-Plasse.
The Burial will be private.
