Francis P. DeVita, Sr., 70, of North Providence, passed away on July 20, 2024 at the Miriam Hospital. He was the husband of Donna M. (Vecchione) DeVita, whom he married nearly 51 years ago after meeting at the age of 15. Born in Boston, he was a son of the late Robert and Irene (Gerstel) Burns.
Francis loved playing football in his youth, and enjoyed cheering on his son when he played in his childhood. A true outdoorsman, he spent his time boating and fishing, as well as camping. At the campground, he was know as "Papa Fran", listening to music and acting as DJ for his campground friends. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Francis will be remembered for his charm and sense of humor, which endeared him to many. He will be missed.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Francis P. DeVita, Jr. and his wife, Michelle, his daughter, Cheryl A. Beffre and her husband, Owen, six grandchildren, Ariana Beffre, Emily DeVita, Braelyn Beffre, Hailey Beffre, Joshua DeVita, and Kendal Beffre, three great-grandchildren, Brayden, Jaxon, and Lincoln (LJ) Dinis, his sister, Elizabeth Carey, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph and William DeVita and Frederick Quirk.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 4-8 pm in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Tomorrow Fund.
