Ernest Mercier

Mercier, Ernest A., 78, formerly of Farnum Pike, died August 10, 2009 at Cortland Place. A lifelong resident of Smithfield, he was a son of the late Adolphe and Ida (Heroux) Mercier.

Ernest was a clerk at the former First National Store and had also worked in maintenance for the Smithfield School Department. He was a graduate of La Salle Academy, class of 1950, and a member of the Meatcutters Union. He loved to dance and was an avid Red Sox fan. He had served in the RI Air National Guard.

He is survived by his brother, A. Donald Mercier of Smithfield and nieces and nephews.

His funeral and visitation will be held Wednesday 8-9 am in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave, North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in St. Michael Church, Georgiaville. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to La Salle Academy, Development Office, 612 Academy Ave., Providence, RI 02908, Attn: Tuition aid.
