Elizabeth A. Wilkes “Betty” (Hague), 92, of Smithfield, died on December 21, 2024 at the Village at Waterman Lake. She was the wife of the late Alfred B. Wilkes, Jr. Born in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Luke and Elizabeth (McCaughey) Hague.
Betty was the proprietor with her late husband of Carvel Ice Cream in Johnston. She also had worked at the former American Universal Insurance. She loved bowling, playing cards, and dancing, and laughing. Most of all, she was a loving mother and grandmother.
Betty is survived by her son, Robert Wilkes and his wife, Trish of Ventura, CA, her daughter, Kathleen Trainor and her husband, Donald of Smithfield, five grandchildren, Ryan, Donald, Shane, Jared, and David, and nine great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Elaine Morrison and sister of the late Mary Fennessy, Roselyn Cormier, and Joseph Hague.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Village at Waterman Lake for their compassionate care of Betty over the past few years, particularly Jess, who was not only a caretaker, but a dear friend.
Her funeral will be held on Monday, January 6, 2025 at 9 am from the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Michael’s Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Smithfield. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Calling hours Sunday, January 5th from 5-7 pm.
