Edward O'Connell, Jr.

O'Connell, Jr., Edward D., 97, formerly of Zambarano Ave., died Friday May 4, 2012 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the husband of the late Madeline M. (Kelly) O'Connell. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Edward D. and Mary T. (Harper) O'Connell.

Edward was a health inspector for the Rhode Island Department of Health for 26 years before retiring in 1977. He was a Eucharistic Minister at the former St. Lawrence Church and a 4th degree Knight at the Park Avenue Knights of Columbus. He belonged to the Glocester Country Club and was an avid baseball and Red Sox fan.

He is survived by two daughters, Maureen A. O'Connell of Lincoln, Regina M. Sutherland and her husband Dr. Donald Sutherland of Rehoboth, two grandsons, Sean and Ryan Sutherland, and three brothers, Arthur, Ernest and Francis O'Connell. He was the brother of the late Norman O'Connell and Donald O'Connell.

Visitation will be held Tuesday May 15, 2012, 9-10 AM in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave. North Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Ann Church, Cranston. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery.
