Edward E. Johnson

Edward E. Johnson (Ed) passed away peacefully on September 24, 2024 in Johnston, RI after a long battle with cancer. Ed was a resident of North Providence, RI for over 50 years with his wife Kathleen.

Ed was born on March 27, 1942 in Providence, RI. He is preceded in death by his father Edward E. Johnson, mother Anna Johnson and grandson, Nathan G. Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen R. Johnson, son, David E. Johnson, son, Robert E. Johnson, grandson, Zachary E. Johnson, granddaughter, Kaleigh K. Johnson, brother, Frederick P. Johnson, sister-in-law, Cynthia P. Johnson, nephew, Kyle D. Johnson, and niece Kendall A. Robinson.

After Ed graduated from Tolman High School in 1960, he went on to study business at the University of Rhode Island. He graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1964 and went on to have a successful, twenty-five year career with The Fram Corporation.

Ed was a US Army veteran. He served two years with the 107th Signal Company with distinction in the Vietnam War.

During retirement, Ed and Kathy enjoyed spending warm summer days along the RI coast and traveling. They made several trips to Hawaii and Las Vegas, their two favorite vacationing spots. They also enjoyed visiting their grandchildren in Texas. Ed stayed active by working out on a regular basis, “puttering” in the yard and playing golf with his sons, David and Bobby. Ed also cherished the occasional “happy hour” he shared with his son David in the backyard.

Ed was recently asked, what is your idea of perfect happiness? His reply was the following: I would say my motto in life is to be thoughtful, kind and respectful of other people and to do the very best you can in life. If you can look back on your life and be content with who you are, what you have become, the things you have accomplished, be proud of your efforts and to share them with your family and friends that would be “perfect happiness.” Ed’s family and closest friends can attest that Ed lived by his motto every single day.

He was loved by all. He made this world a better place and he will be missed.

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held Saturday September 28, 2024, from 10am-12pm at the Elliott M. Robbins Funeral Home at 2251 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence, RI, followed by military honors.
