Dorothy M. Uttley (Stevens), 96, died on April 9, 2024 at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center. She was the wife of the late Robert Uttley. Born in North Providence, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Phyllis (Booth) Stevens. Dorothy was primarily a homemaker who enjoyed raising her children, cooking for her family, and baking Christmas cookies for friends and relatives each holiday season. When her children reached their teenage years, she began working at AT Cross, where she made many good friends.
Dorothy was an active parishioner of the former St. Alban's Church in Centredale, where she sang in the choir as a teenager. It was through the St Alban’s Church choir that she befriended Eleanor Uttley, the woman who later became her mother in law by introducing Dorothy to her son Robert. Dot loved being a part of the St Alban’s Episcopal Church Women’s group, as well as volunteering for the annual church bazaars; something she greatly looked forward to each year. She especially loved baking, so she would happily volunteer to run the baked goods table. She continued her devotion at Trinity Episcopal Church in Scituate after St. Alban's closed. Dot was also an active member of the Salvatore Mancini Senior Center for many years, where she enjoyed playing bingo and socializing with her friends over lunch.
Dorothy had many hobbies. She enjoyed puzzles, crocheting, and going on bus trips with her husband, Bob, and their friends from the church. She was an avid fan of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, having the ability to answer many of the questions and solve the puzzles with great pride. She had a tremendous interest in reading books about history, and was a wealth of knowledge about the subject.
She is survived by three children, Carol Ouellette and her husband Ronald, Sandra Smith and her wife Jessica, and David Uttley, as well as her grandson, Justin Drescher and his fiancée Dr. Lindsay Allison. She was the sister of the late Hope Cafesso and Gladys Turronis, and Henry, John, and Robert Stevens.
Her funeral service will be held Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 12:30 pm in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
Visitation Saturday 11:30 am-12:30 pm.
