Dorothy Allamby

Allamby, Dorothy M. (Horiagon) 91, of North Providence, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2023.  She was the beloved wife of 65 years of Donald B. Allamby.  She was born in Providence on November 6, 1931 and was the daughter of the late James and Katherine (Mason) Horiagon.

Dorothy worked for the state of Rhode Island for 16 years, retiring as a Senior Teller in the Department of Vital Records in Providence.  She was a former communicant of St. Augustine’s Church.  Dorothy had many passions in life with the first being the love and support of her husband, children, and grandchildren.  She was proud of her Irish heritage and loved nature, having a gift for gardening.  Animals of all kinds touched her heart, especially the families’ dogs.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Catherine Cardon and her husband, Paul, and Mary Beth Barkan, six grandchildren, MaryKate, Megan, and Kristen Cardon, and Colin, Caitlin, and Shannon Barkan, as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was the mother of the late Brian Allamby, mother-in-law of the late Jeffrey Barkan, and younger sister of the late James Hourigan, Francis, Joseph, Thomas, Edward, and William Horiagon, Mary Saloman, and Catherine Parker.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 11 am in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence.  Burial will follow in Swan Point Cemetery.  Calling hours Tuesday 4-7 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org .
