Wood, Donald C. "Grumpy", 84, of Greystone Ave., died peacefully at RI Hospital on April 25, 2012 with his entire family at his side. He was the loving husband of the late Beverly (Clegg) Wood. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Randolph D. and Gladys (Jagger) Wood.
Donald was a splicer for Narragansett Electric for 35 years, retiring in 1989. He also worked for Witham Carpet Service. He was a member of the Greystone P.M. Church and an Army Veteran of WWII. Donald loved nature, wildlife, fishing with his family, bowling, and watching boxing. One of the highlights of his day was enjoying his morning coffee with his "good friends, his buddies".
A devoted father, Donald leaves three children, Kathie (Wood) Clemence and her husband, Mark of Chepachet, David R. Wood and his wife, Donna of North Providence, and Steven D. Wood and his fiancée, Pamela Mowry of Smithfield, seven grandchildren, Amy, Joshua, Heather, David Jr., Laura, Amanda, and Steven Jr., seven great-grandchildren, and two nieces, Andrea Amitrano and Lisa Topp. He was the brother of the late Dorothy A. Amitrano.
His funeral service will be held Monday at 11 am in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park. Calling hours Sunday 4-7 pm.
