Nelson, Charles W., 88, of Johnston, died Friday, November 2, 2018 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the husband of the late Gladys M. (Whitfield) Nelson. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Charles G. and Elizabeth (Wood) Nelson.
Charles was an Honorman for Company #329 at the US Navy Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois. He was a general foreman installation maintenance officer for 12 years and deputy director of logistics for two years in Ft. Devens, MA. He received The Commander’s Award for Civilian Service by the Department of the Army. Charles served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan N. Peloquin (Paul) and Linda M. Thomasian (Bill Partridge), four grandchildren, Thomas C. Thomasian, Kurt N. Peloquin, Grace L. Peloquin, and Erik R. Peloquin, and two great-grandchildren, Thomas B. Thomasian and Jack P. Marciscano.
His visitation will be held Thursday from 8:45-10:15 AM in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence, with a Requiem Eucharist at 11 AM at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Rte. 44, Greenville. Burial with military honors will follow in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blinded Veterans Assn., 108 Elm St., Swansea, MA 02777.
