Carol Langford

Carol Hope (Cunningham) Langford passed away peacefully on December 28, 2021 surrounded by her family. Carol was born on June 2, 1951, the second daughter of the late Lloyd and Dorothy Cunningham.  She lived her entire life in the towns of Smithfield and Johnston, Rhode Island where she settled and raised her family.

Carol is survived by her husband, Edward, Sr., her children Edward, Jr. (Erin) and Michael, and her beloved grandchildren, Evan and Savannah.  She is also survived by her sister Jean Barry and her partner Susan Paul, her brother Patrick Cunningham and his wife Jenny, sister’s-in-law, Gail Langford and Ann Langford, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.  She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Walter Langford.

Carol was one of a kind and loved by all who knew her.  She was kind, generous and always willing to help others.  As the saying goes, she would give you the shirt off of her back if you needed it.  She had a quiet personality with a very dry sense of humor, and a contagious chuckle when someone made her laugh, but she smiled most when around her grandchildren, of whom she was extremely proud.

Carol was a lifelong Red Sox fan and listened to classic rock music.  She loved Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and had a sweet tooth, never passing up the opportunity to eat dessert.  She enjoyed travelling when possible, but never too far or for too long, as she loved being back home in Rhode Island with her dogs.

Second only to her love of her family was Carol’s love of animals.  She was an avid horse rider for many years in her youth. She also had a special love for dogs, but not just any dog; Carol’s favorite was the Dalmatian. She loved them so much, that she collected them, decorated her home with them, and if there was anything with spots on it, you knew she was going to buy it or wear it.

Through the years, she had many dogs, including Space (named after her favorite Red Sox pitcher, Bill Lee – aka, the Spaceman), Chip, Freckles, Pixel, Hillary, Irene, Justin and her current dog, Missy.  She also had several Shelties named Natalie, and Noel.  Carol was an accomplished dog handler and enjoyed spending many weekends at dog shows, showcasing her companions’ beauty and skills, including agility, conformation, and obedience.  Many of her dogs had formal names that included titles from her favorite Moody Blues songs, of whom she was a huge fan.

Carol worked at Lee’s Manufacturing Company for more than 35 years and was a dedicated employee.  She made lifelong friends during her time there. Carol leaves behind a legacy of not only family, but many close friends from the relationships she formed through her love of dogs.  She will be missed by all who knew her and look forward to seeing her again someday.

Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 11 am in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence.  Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park.  Calling hours Monday 4-6 pm.
