Faella, Carmella "Mel", 90, recently of West Bay Manor, West Shore Rd., Warwick, owner and operator of the former Mel's Soldering in Johnston before retiring in 1961, passed peacefully on March 9, 2009 at Kent Hospital. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Joseph Faella, Sr. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Domenic T. and Anna Maria (Fandetti) Ciampanelli.

A Johnston resident for most of her life, she was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church and active in parish life for many years, serving as a member of St. Ann Sodality, the Altar Society, as a Eucharistic minister and as church rectory cook. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and knitting for her family and many friends.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph Faella, Jr. of Johnston, Robert L. Faella of Warwick, one daughter, Janice Faella McMann of Charlestown and Jupiter, FL, 7 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Marie "Delia" DeRensis, Maria "Doris" Parrillo, and Joseph and Carlo Ciampanelli.

Her funeral will be held on Friday at 9 am from the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence with a concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Our Lady of Grace Church. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to visitation on Thursday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Our Lady of Grace Church Memorial Fund, 4 Lafayette St., Johnston, RI 02919 or VNA of Care New England, 51 Health Lane, Warwick, RI 02886 would be deeply appreciated.
