Carmel Juliet (Sgambato) Gibbons passed away in her home on the 21st of November 2020.
Carmel was born on January 14, 1927 in Centerdale, Rhode Island to the late Juliet (Dandurand) and Frank J Sgambato (former Rhode Island State Majority Leader) and was sister to the late Frances Barker.
She made North Providence her home with her beloved late husband Raymond J Gibbons. She leaves behind her daughter Susan Lombardi and son-in-law Michael Lombardi of Greenville. She was mother to the late Jeffrey Gibbons. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Julie (Lombardi) Gelsomino and her husband Salvatore, Matthew Lombardi and his wife April, Kristen Lombardi, Meghan (Gibbons) Brousseau and her husband Alan. Giga’s legacy lives on in her ten great-grandchildren, Sarah Beth, Mark, Molly Gelsomino, Ben, Anna Beth, Jack, Sam Lombardi, Theodore Gordon, Gwendolyn and Isabelle Brousseau.
Carmel was a proud and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother enjoying many different sporting events, trips and family gatherings. While spending summers at her cottage in Maine with family and friends she enjoyed watching her family grow.
She was a true friend and leaves “The Wednesday Girls” Edna, Ruth, Beatrice and Deedee with memories of friendship spanning over eight decades.

Our family would like to express our gratitude to the North Providence first responders who treated our mother and grandmother with care and respect.
She was the very proud matriarch of her family. We will miss her deeply and remember her with love.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 10 am in St. Augustine Church, Providence. Calling hours are omitted and burial will be private.
