Barbara L. Marwell, 93 of North Providence passed away peacefully on May 3, 2024. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ruth (Seabury) Gardiner. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Joseph Marwell Jr., and her son Joseph Marwell III. She is survived by her sons, Mark Marwell, Jeffrey Marwell and his wife, Patti, and her daughter-in-law Mary Marwell. Barbara leaves behind two granddaughters, Marissa Marwell and Jennifer Marwell, as well her cherished great granddaughter Henley Rose Duclos. She also leaves behind her cousins Charles H. and Robert H. Jordan, who always had a special place in her heart.
She was a direct descendant of John Alden and Priscilla Mullins of the Plymouth Bay Colony, and the family is registered with the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, number 1660. Barbara graduated from Mount Pleasant High School, Class of 1948 and was inducted into the Rhode Island Honor Society.
Barbara worked as a secretary for the Jewelers Board of Trade before her marriage. She then devoted her life to caring for her three boys and her family as well as helping to manage the family businesses, Marwell Trucking Inc. and Northeast Bus Company, Inc. Barbara always made sure everyone was taken care of and often put the needs of others above her own. Anyone who knew Barbara would tell you what a kind, selfless and generous woman she was. She especially took care of her grandchildren from watching them after school to driving them around for dance class and back to school shopping outings every year. Barbara herself loved dancing and attended line dancing classes for many years. Barbara truly was a wonderful woman and the matriarch of the family. Her absence will leave a void in many and she will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society https://www.lls.org/.
