Anne Allen

Anne H. Allen, 94, of Smithfield passed away at Roger Williams Hospital on May 27, 2023. She was the wife of the late F. Monroe Allen.

Anne was a graduate of Northfield School and Skidmore College. Her first job was in the fashion industry in NYC. She returned to RI and worked as a medical secretary and as a legislative assistant at the RI Legislature. She was a long-time Smithfield resident and very interested in town politics.

Anne loved art and was a volunteer docent at the RISD Art Museum. She enjoyed tennis, chair yoga, knitting, and hosting the Wednesday night runners’ club. Her home was the family center that for many years was the location of wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. Anne’s greatest passion though was traveling. She had visited six continents--traveling to exotic places like Papua New Guinea, Namibia, Yemen, and Patagonia.

Anne was loved for her kind and thoughtful nature. She was more interested in other people’s stories rather than her own. She will be missed by her many friends, family members, and neighbors.

Anne is survived by her two children, Heidi of Scituate, RI and David of Norton, MA, their spouses, and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
