Scanlon, Anna May (Chmura), 78, of Smithfield, passed away on November 2, 2021, just after sunrise, to join with her beloved son Edward Laby. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Annie (Sleboda) Chmura.
Anna May was a graduate of Brown University, where she focused on building her career because of her love for science. She worked at the Milford Hospital in CT where she spent her time in the histology department. She was a very determined and well-educated woman, who was well recognized for her hard work and perseverance through any difficult task she was given. Anna May had received awards and recognitions for important projects she had worked on. She had many interests in arts and crafts and was an avid crocheter. She loved the animals she had over the years, but her pet she loved the most was her Maine Coon Cat, Molly. Her love for gardening was something that could not be measured. Anna had a green thumb and her gardens always flourished.
She leaves behind her godson James Sleboda and his family, brother-in-law, Bob Anderson, and will also be missed by many friends, nieces and nephews, and cousins. She was the sister of the late Carolyn Anderson.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 6th from 1-3 pm, followed by a service at 3 pm in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence.
