Alma Gordon “White Sky”
On the morning of September 29, Alma Gordon of Avon CT passed after a valiant fight with Multiple Systems Atrophy, MSA.
She is survived by her daughter Kara Smith of Brooklyn, NY, her brother Robert Gordon Jr. of
Pasadena, CA, and her many loving cousins and friends.
Alma was born to parents Mabel (Healis) Gordon and Robert L. Gordon in Salisbury, MD,
grew up in North Providence RI, and graduated from Rhode Island College.
Her long career in insurance product development brought her to many new locations
including Boston, MA, Buffalo, NY, Illinois, Texas, and Connecticut.
Having Native American family roots in Martha’s Vineyard MA, and an interest in sociology, she embraced her heritage; eventually becoming the Sonksq, Tribal leader, of the Chappaquiddick Wampanoag Tribe. Her leadership has been impactful and lended credence and viability to the Tribe’s mission of cultural advancement, reparations, and recognition of Chappaquiddick People in the native community and on Martha’s Vineyard Island.
