Galligan, Alice E., 89, of North Providence, passed away September 12, 2011 surrounded by her family. Alice was born on April 4, 1922 in Watertown, MA, daughter of the late George and Alice (Ryan) Fontaine. She was married for 62 years to the late Francis Galligan.
A loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she is survived by her son Francis and fiancée Helga; daughter Carole and Bill Sgambato; son Thomas and the late Charlotte Galligan; sister of the late Helen Rankl; sister-in-law to Eileen Galligan and Edward Rankl. She leaves behind two grandsons, Michael and John Sgambato; three granddaughters, Jennifer and Chris Miano; Cheri Sgambato; Lisa and Derek Calabro; six great grandchildren, Sabrina, Cheyenne, Jared, Sydnee, Hannah and Dylan.
Alice was a devoted longtime member of St. Lawrence Church. She worked at J & H Electric for almost 20 years and was a longstanding member of the DAV, where she became treasurer. Alice also volunteered much of her time to the Lymansville Volunteer Fire Department where her husband was a fireman. She enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots, playing bingo, cards and spending time with her family. Alice was very proud of her legacy and her family will cherish their memories forever.
Her funeral will be held Monday at 9 AM from the ROBBINS FUNERAL HOME, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave, North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Mary, Mother of Mankind Church, 25 Fourth St. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday 5-8 PM.
