Izzo, Alfred R. "Babe", 81, of Olmstead Way, died November 29, 2012 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the loving husband of Marie (Rossignoli) Izzo for 59 years. Born in Johnston, he was a son of the late Albert and Sarah (Cambio) Izzo.
An Army veteran, Alfred served in the Korean Conflict and was appointed Sergeant 1st Class at the age of 19. He was given the prestigious honor of guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery. He was an avid Red Sox fan and musician, who loved to play the drums and piano. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Alfred was the youngest out of ten children. He also enjoyed dancing with his wife.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Joseph Izzo of Providence, Alfred Izzo and his wife Lisa of North Providence, David Izzo and his wife Donna of Coventry, Annmarie Carlson and her husband Bob of Warwick, and Laurie Izzo of West Warwick, grandchildren Brian, David, and Daniel Izzo, Kerissa Vadnais, Andrew and Kate Carlson, and a brother, Edmund Izzo. He is predeceased by his siblings, Edith DelVicario, Anna Giuliano, Dorothy Cifelli, Eleanor Izzo, Norma DeCurtis, and Robert, John and Albert "Junior" Izzo.
His funeral will be held Monday at 10AM in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave. North Providence. Burial with military honors will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Calling hours Sunday 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main St. Providence, RI 02904.
