Hansen, Alfred E., 76, of Douglas, MA, formerly of Smithfield and Coventry, died July 7, 2010 at Overlook Nursing Home. He was the husband of Beverly W. Hansen for 54 years. Born in Smithfield on June 12, 1934, he was a son of the late Nils A. and Elizabeth (Longfellow) Hansen.
Besides his wife, he leaves three children, Kenneth E. Hansen, Judith L. Hansen, and Gail A. Hansen, two grandchildren, Ellen A. Hansen and Lauren L. Hansen, three step-grandchildren, Aubrey L. Ward, Carmen-Lee G. Ward, and Derek W. Otis, a brother N. August Hansen, and sisters, Elizabeth A. Burhoe and Barbara Hiatt. He was predeceased by siblings, Bert Hansen, Norman Hansen, Clara Henlin, and Dorothy Bardsley.
Alfred was a registered land surveyor and the principal of Alfred E. Hansen Associates. He was a lifelong Baptist, and during his life, he was an active member of Allendale Baptist Church, Quidnick Baptist Church, and Phenix Baptist Church, serving in various church offices as well as singing in the choir. He was an active member of the Providence Camp of Gideons International Inc. Alfred served for over twenty years in the US Naval Reserve (Seabees). Skilled in construction, he built several of his family's homes. He formerly served as the Scoutmaster of Troop 41, Allendale, North Providence.
Calling hours will be held Saturday 1-4 pm in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 pm in the Phenix Baptist Church, 2 Fairview Ave., West Warwick. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Gideons International.
