Bruno, Albert “Al” Francis, 89, of Smithfield, RI passed away peacefully on November 30, 2020.
Born and raised in the town of Smithfield, Al was born in Esmond to his parents, Enrico and Lucia (Corona) Bruno. He was one of 7 children, brother to sisters Lavinia DiStefano, Lena Spino and Jenny DiStefano and brother James, all who preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister Angie Simeone and brother Harry Bruno (Colette)
Father to four loving daughters, Cynthia Davis of Providence, Diana Rodrigues of Midlothian, VA, Pamela Cote (James) of Greenville and Paula Bradshaw (Michael) of Cumberland, Al also had eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Al served in the Army during the Korean War and would later become the Building and Zoning Official for the towns of Smithfield and Cumberland. In retirement, Al remained active in the community of Smithfield and occasionally had writings about the town published in both the Smithfield Observer and the Valley Breeze.
In retirement, Al found his true joy in playing his one of his many guitars. His love of music started at the age of 8 and continued for over 80 years. A proud member of the Old Fiddler’s Club of Rhode Island, Al was always ready and willing to keep the beat for the group.
His story-telling was legendary, his laugh was infectious, and his love of life was obvious every day. Al truly enjoyed every minute spent with his family and friends and couldn’t wait to see them all the next time.
His Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday December 18 at 10:00am at St Michael’s Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Georgiaville. Private burial with military honors will take place at RI Veterans Cemetery in Exeter.
