Azevedo, A. Edward, of Smithfield, passed away on May 1, 2010. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Genovese) Azevedo.

Mr. Azevedo was born in Middleboro, MA on July 28, 1926, the son of the late Anthony S. Azevedo and Gladys (Rathbone) Azevedo. He received a B.S. in Accounting and Finance from Bryant College in 1948. During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Navy, receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. He was employed by St. Joseph Health Services for 37 years, retiring as President in 1991. During his tenure, he was a member of the RI Medical Review board, Chairman of the Hospital Association of RI, the American College of Healthcare Executives, and Chairman of the Operations Committee for the RI Blood Center. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees, Executive Committee and Finance Committee for HARICOMP Shared Services Corporation for the Hospital Association of RI.

Mr. Azevedo was a communicant and active member of St. Michael Church, Georgiaville, serving as a Trustee, Chairman of the Finance Council, and Eucharistic Minister. He received the Papal Honor of Knighthood in the Order of St. Gregory the Great in 1989. He was also an Advisory Board Member for Saint Antoine Residence and Villa.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Donna Marn and husband Gary of Smithfield and Barbara Azevedo of Swansea, MA, grandchildren, Matthew Marn, Allison Marn, and Kristen Marn, and sisters, Della Tibbetts of E. Bridgewater, MA and Beverly Dickinson of Middleboro, MA.

His funeral will be held Friday, May 7, 2010 at 9 am from the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Michael Church, Georgiaville. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Taunton, MA. Calling hours are Thursday, May 6, from 5-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Smithfield, RI 02917.
